Two interviews, DM and manager late for all. Said I would be called by 12:00 the next day for walk-thru. I am guessing because I am a older single mom, I was not a good fit. I am strong, educated and available. They should have at least had the courtesy to call and let me know the score. Bad business practice.Comment

Complaint

I've been working for Aldi for about 2 years. And I use to love working for the company. The reason was because of my staff including my store manager and coworkers, oh and a few customers. It was hard work but it pays off. They're were tough times but over all excellent times. Never did I have that "I hate going to work" attitude up until I transferred to Maryland. Let me tell you. This Aldi sucks the life out of you. You no longer want to work. If it wasn't for school I would of stayed in tn to start my manager training. But I decided to take my shift manager skills to the east coast. Big mistake it feels. The people are rude. The store manager is afraid of scheduling more hours on weekends when were really busy but he has a ton of people during the day with him. They are two completely different places and divisions and it just sucks. The east coast aldi has it to where if we close at 8 we don't leave til 10pm! What the freak. This place is a joke. You can't chew gum, or show tattoos apparently anymore which btw I isn't in the books but hey ok. The DM are assholes.Comment

Complaint

I've worked at Aldi for about 3 years now and struggled the whole time with the division of my work and home life. As a current store manager I've found the line diminishing at an ever aggressive rate. I have loved Aldi, but, I don't know if I can sacrifice anymore of myself to stay with a company I feel is pushing more on me that I can handle. I find I'm grumpy and depressed a great deal of the time these days. I don't know what to do. I am a hard worker, a top store in the district... 545 productivities, .20 inventories, over $600,000 months... but how much more can I push?Comment

I do not recommend you seek employment with this company. My significant other applied for a tech job with Aldi in Batavia, IL and an interview was scheduled. The first interview supposedly went well and a second interview was scheduled. We drove 4 hours for him to make an appearance at the interview only to be given a 4 hour notice that the interview was canceled due to the position being filled. I am distraught and furious that we had invested money in a brand new suit and wasted at least 60 dollars gas money to appear for an interview that never happened. They could have been more considerate and given us more than 4 hours notice of the canceled interview! SHAME ON YOU ALDI!!!!!!!Comment

I've read all the reviews on this page and I agree with most of them. This is a prison not a place of work. Aldi does not care about you or your family. Aldi only cares about Aldi! You can have a dagger in your back, bleeding with pain and Aldi will still expect you to come to work. Your child can be dying of cancer, and they would still expect you to stock the shelves. I remember one employee died in the break room. She complained of a bad headache and they did not want to let her go home. About a half hour later they came looking for her because she was late from break and found her dead on the break room table. The poor woman died of an aneurysm. Take it from me, YOU DO NOT WANT TO WORK FOR THIS COMPANY!!! They could not pay me 500,000 a year to work for them. No amt of money could ever make me work for them again.Comment

Save yourself the trouble and don't work here. Just becuase this company throws money at you, they think that they can treat you like crap! I've worked with cashiers that work two jobs even though Aldi says they offer better wages. They do but they don't give you hours. Also they want the least amount of workers in the store wich means you will be overtasked and if you complain, they will tell you to work harder. Any mistakes you make, you have to come in on your day off to fix, if it was not up to the opening managers expectations. SOmetimes they do it to "haze" you or just to be a dick. After all, if they had to come in...you have to come in. Seriously, Do not work here unless you love working yourself to death, no retirement cuz you will burn out and leave, and no promotions.Comment

Review

I too worked for Aldi as a DM. I never fell into the category of being improperly trained. I was trained in a rural area, and ran districts in both rural areas and in the chicago area. I really liked working for the company for about the first five years, but when I started inquiring about possible advancement, no one gave me a straight answer. I continuesd to ask what I was NOT doing to help in furthering my career, and still never given a straight answer. When I finally was honest about my wishes to advance my career, I was basically targeted and picked on for every little thing. My director of operations was pretty much a pawn who couldn't think on her own. Funny thing is, shortly after I left, she GOT FIRED because seriously she was the WORST boss anyone ever had.

I did enjoy my time at Aldi up to a certain point. We got paid extrememly well (with no time to spend it) and I left with 5 weeks of vacation (which I often wouldn't use up within a year). They did prepare me for the next career because it was so tough, but I walked away from a 100+K career. I did get nice parting gifts for sure...but sometimes it is not about the amount of money you make in a year, but rather the appreciation you are shown.

Opportunities for advancement are extrememly limited with this company, and there are many Managers, DMs, Shift managers, that remain in the same position for years and years because they are jumping through hoops to try to get to a promotion that doesn't exist. Overall, no hard feelings, I still shop there. I have changed careers and work with a company that cares about advancement and encouraging schooling and career development. No, they don't have all holidays off, but I would rather work a holiday than have to deal with 100+ pages of faxes a day (because aldi doesn;t believe in computers), 80+ hour work weeks, and often getting calls at 9, 10, 11pm and sometimes middle of the night when the freaking store alarms would go off.Comment
